Many of the day-to-day
activities of the company
involve various operations requiring a high degree of skill. These
operations are carried out in one of the most
challenging and hazardous operating environments and for a successful
and safe conclusion most of them require a coordinated and integrated
effort by a range of operators. The need for training, especially
experiential training that can be achieved using simulators and
simulation technology is widely recognized by Great Offshore. The
company thus ordered and installed a customized Offshore Vessel
Maneuvering Simulator, developed by ARI. This Simulator has
been extensively used to familiarize, train, assess and upgrade the
maneuvering skills of their sea going staff. Over 325 officers have
undergone various levels of training on the simulator. This is the
first and only Offshore Vessel Maneuvering simulator in India.
The Simulator was offered for Certification by DNV, and after a
detailed inspection DNV has classified the Simulator as "Offshore
Vessel Manoeuvring and Navigation Simulator wit Integrated GMDSS".
